Personal WiFi Instead of a Shared Guest Network

Traditional guest and resident WiFi often places many users behind the same SSID and shared credentials.

Wiacom Horizon introduces a personal WiFi model. Each authorised user can receive an individual WiFi identity, network or credential associated with their stay, tenancy, event, employment or other authorised access period.

Users get a familiar and personal connectivity experience while the venue retains centralised control of the underlying network.

Combined with supported Wiacom PMS, booking, Guest Connect or API integrations, reservation events can initiate, manage or terminate the guest’s WiFi access.

PMS-Driven WiFi Access

Wiacom can connect hotel identity and reservation information with network access. Depending on the PMS and deployment, workflows can include guest identification, pre-arrival or check-in provisioning, automatic activation, stay-based access periods and automatic expiry after checkout.

Horizon can operate alongside Guest Connect, Captive Portal, WiFi Pass and Passpoint Connect as part of a wider hotel WiFi identity and access workflow.

Secure Personal WiFi — Without Sharing Home Credentials

Horizon does not require a user’s private home WiFi credentials to be transferred to the hotel, venue or Wiacom.

Instead, Horizon provisions dedicated credentials or network access for the user inside the participating venue. The user’s private home or office WiFi password remains separate.

Personal WiFi can also be combined with supported VLAN, access-policy and segmentation capabilities of the underlying infrastructure to separate guest, resident, staff, IoT and business traffic according to deployment requirements.

WiFi Teleport: Your Personal WiFi Identity Can Follow You

The Wiacom WiFi Teleport concept gives users a familiar personal WiFi identity across participating locations while the underlying venue credentials remain independently generated and controlled.

Works With Existing WiFi Infrastructure

Horizon operates as a software and orchestration layer above compatible existing WiFi infrastructure. A complete replacement of the wireless network is not normally required.

Provisioning is selected according to the capabilities of the underlying WiFi platform. Wiacom can integrate directly with supported infrastructure or use Wiacom Agent where a local integration bridge is appropriate.

Vendor-agnostic architecture also allows Horizon to form part of mixed-vendor and multi-location WiFi environments.

What is personal WiFi?

Personal WiFi gives an individual user their own network identity, SSID or credentials rather than requiring everyone to use the same shared WiFi credentials. Wiacom Horizon orchestrates this access on compatible WiFi infrastructure and manages the user’s access lifecycle.

Does Horizon copy my home WiFi password to the hotel?

No. The user’s home WiFi credentials are not transferred to the hotel, venue or Wiacom. Horizon provisions dedicated credentials or access within the participating network while keeping the user’s private home or office WiFi credentials separate.

Can hotels use Horizon with their PMS?

Yes. As part of a supported Wiacom integration, PMS or reservation information can be used to identify the guest and control the WiFi access lifecycle, including provisioning, activation and expiry according to the stay.

What happens when a hotel guest checks out?

Where Horizon is connected to the appropriate PMS, reservation or access workflow, personal WiFi access can automatically expire or be revoked when the authorised stay ends.

Is Horizon only for hotels?

No. Horizon can also support resident WiFi, serviced apartments, PBSA, Build-to-Rent, coworking, temporary events, staff, contractors and other environments requiring personal or temporary WiFi access.

Does Horizon require new WiFi hardware?

Not necessarily. Horizon integrates with compatible existing WiFi infrastructure. The exact provisioning and integration method depends on the capabilities of the underlying WiFi platform.

Is Horizon the same as WiFi Pass?

No. WiFi Pass provides individual credentials using supported iPSK, MPSK, PPSK or equivalent mechanisms. Horizon is the broader orchestration model for delivering and managing a personal WiFi experience and can use access mechanisms supported by the underlying infrastructure.

Is Horizon the same as Passpoint?

No. Passpoint provides secure profile-based automatic WiFi discovery and authentication. Horizon focuses on personal WiFi identity and network provisioning. Horizon, Passpoint, WiFi Pass, Guest Connect and Captive Portal can operate as complementary parts of the Wiacom platform.
