Guest WiFi is more than an internet access service. For hotels and resorts, it can become a powerful channel for building direct guest relationships, collecting first-party data and promoting on-property services.
At Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort in St. Lucia, Wiacom demonstrated how an existing WiFi network could support guest engagement, marketing communication and measurable business results.
The Results
The 2022 project case study reported:
| Metric | Reported result |
|---|---|
| First-party audience growth | 1,000+ CRM entries per week |
| Cross-zone guest traffic | 82% increase |
| Sales generated through in-venue offers | 14× more sales |
| Guest WiFi onboarding | Over 95% of guests |
These results illustrate how guest WiFi can evolve from a connectivity service into a measurable marketing and engagement channel.
The Challenge: Building Direct Guest Relationships
Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort is a luxury Caribbean destination spanning more than 60 acres, with over 200 villas at the time of the project.
Like many hotels and resorts, Windjammer operated in a competitive hospitality market where Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) and tour operators played an important role in guest acquisition.
One of the challenges was establishing direct communication with guests, including those who booked through third-party channels.
The resort needed a way to identify and engage guests, obtain their consent for communication and create opportunities to promote its own services and experiences.
At the same time, different resort areas — including restaurants, bars, the pool, beach and other facilities — experienced different levels of guest traffic.
The Solution: Connecting Guest WiFi with Marketing and Engagement
Wiacom’s guest WiFi platform provided a digital touchpoint through which the resort could connect guests to its WiFi network while supporting guest identification, audience development and targeted communications.
The project focused on several areas.
Guest Registration and First-Party Data
WiFi onboarding created opportunities to collect guest information and build a valuable CRM audience.
This enabled the resort to establish more direct relationships with guests, including visitors acquired through OTAs, while supporting consent-based communication.
The project generated more than 1,000 CRM entries per week.
Location-Based Guest Segmentation
Windjammer Landing’s WiFi environment covered multiple resort zones, including the lobby, main restaurant, swimming pool, beach, bars and accommodation areas.
By organizing the venue into distinct zones, the project supported more relevant audience segmentation and communication based on guests’ presence within the resort.
Increasing Cross-Zone Engagement
Some areas of a large resort naturally attract more visitors than others.
Using Wiacom’s Live Communication module, the project promoted less-frequented resort facilities and encouraged guests to explore additional locations.
The original case study reported an 82% increase in cross-zone traffic.
Personalized Offers and Events
With more than 95% of guests onboarded to WiFi, the resort gained a communication channel for promoting activities, exclusive offers and events.
Guests could receive relevant messages while visiting areas such as the bar, restaurant, swimming pool or beach.
The project reported 14 times more sales from in-venue offers, demonstrating the commercial potential of connecting guest WiFi with targeted resort promotions.
Managing Different User Categories
The resort’s WiFi environment also served staff members and connected devices, alongside guests.
The implementation included a traffic segmentation approach and in-room signage to help distinguish guest connectivity from other user categories and improve the overall onboarding experience.
Turning OTA Guests into Direct Relationships
One of the most valuable outcomes of the project was the opportunity to establish direct relationships with guests who originally arrived through third-party booking channels.
While OTAs remain important distribution partners for hotels, guest WiFi provides an additional opportunity for properties to develop their own first-party audiences.
By combining guest identification, consent and relevant communication, hotels can extend their relationship with visitors beyond the initial booking.
A Hospitality Milestone for Wiacom
The Windjammer Landing project in 2022 marked Wiacom’s expansion into hospitality, building on previous experience serving shopping malls, restaurants and major transport hubs.
It demonstrated how WiFi infrastructure could support not only connectivity but also guest engagement, audience development and measurable marketing activities.
The project established a foundation for Wiacom’s continued development of guest identity, analytics, secure WiFi onboarding and engagement solutions for hospitality operators.
